Xylitol is an all natural sweetener, containing no artificial ingredients. Wikipedia describes it like this:

“Xylitol is found in the fibers of many fruits and vegetables, and can be extracted from various berries, oats, and mushrooms, as well as fibrous material such as corn husks and sugar cane bagasse,and birch. Xylitol is roughly as sweet as sucrose with only two-thirds the food energy‘

To me, the name sounds chemical, but in fact it is totally natural (and it tastes amazing!)

Xylitol is sugar free and has a low GI of 7 making it suitable for diabetics. Xylitol has 40% fewer calories than refined sugar, has no bitter after taste and is gluten free.

Our Xylitol is manufactured in China by the largest manufacturer of Xylitol in the world, the only other manufacturer being in Europe. It is also ‘pharmaceutical grade’, as explained by our supplier:

‘This xylitol is not organic, however it is pharmaceutical grade as opposed to food grade, meaning it is 99.98% pure xylitol. By pharmaceutical grade, what is meant is that the xylitol goes through two to three more cleansing processes, compared with normal xylitol production, in order to remove impurities.  The process involves passing the xylitol through a sieve 2-3 times so that what you get is purest quality xylitol.  This one is also a very fine granule, which is ideal for baking as it dissolves a lot better in baking as opposed to a  more coarse granule.  It is also a little bit sweeter, probably because it is pharmaceutical grade not food grade. Food grade Xylitol is still good, but this one is even better because it is purer due to the extra cleansing during manufacture.”
